Stone window repair

THROUGHOUT SOMERSET, DEVON, DORSET & CORNWALL

Our restoration and conservation techniques will ensure a long term solution to any problems relating to your stone sills, frames and/or surrounding.

If stone contains ferrous metal or has been unable to breath it rots and crumbles over time. Sometimes we can simply stabilise the situation, but often the stonework will need patching or a total replacement. Where steel bars and/or metal window frame ends are mortared into the stonework they can rust and expand causing the stonework to blow and split. Deterioration of your stonework can also be exacerbated by the use of portland cement pointing, which can cause extreme weathering. However, with our skill and expertise we can match your stonework with a suitable aggregate and lime mortar mix and in doing so provide a long term solution.

If conservation of the window is required, having removed the bars from the stonework we can re-tip the original bars by welding new stainless steel tips. Alternatively, new phosphor bronze or stainless steel bars can be provided.

Below are some examples of our recent work.
